Embrace creativity with cropping

At Jitterbug, we believe that art should not only be admired but also experienced in a way that fits seamlessly into your unique space. One innovative approach to integrating art into your home or business is by using only a portion of a work of art, creating dynamic splashes of color and texture that enhance your interior design.

The power of cropping

While no one would consider taking a multi-million dollar painting by Monet and chopping it up to fit into a smaller frame, cropping an image for a wallpaper mural gives you the design freedom to let art enhance your space in a way that makes sense to you.

When it comes to decorating your walls, the traditional method of using the entire piece of art can sometimes feel limiting, especially if the dimensions or composition don’t perfectly align with your space. In fact, the dimensions of your full wall will likely never match the same dimensions as a piece of fine art. Cropping will always be a consideration you will need to factor in to your design choices.

The mural at the top of this page is of Renoir’s oil painting, Chrysanthemums. If you are not familiar with this work of art, you may not have realized that it was cropped for this mural. We chose this cropping because the dimensions of the painting did not match the dimensions of the space on the wall.

See Monet’s original painting below. It is wider than the space used for our mural.  While it is a stunning painting in its original size, a portion of it works beautifully as a mural.

This technique not only draws attention to specific details but also allows you to use large-scale art in smaller or unconventional spaces. This example especially works because it is surrounded by moulding which helps finish edges, giving it an extra touch of refinement.

Bordighera by Claude Monet
Jitterbug's wallpaper mural of Claude Monet's painting, Bordighera, hangs on the wall of a living room.

Here is another example, Claude Monet’s “Bordighera.” As you can see, Monet’s original painting is much larger than our cropped choice for this wall. We chose to feature the spindly trunks and green foliage of the trees with the bright blue ocean behind it so that it fit the dimensions of the space and highlighted its features.

At Jitterbug, we offer a range of customizable options that enable you to select specific parts of any mural. Whether it’s a close-up of a detailed pattern, a splash of vivid color from a larger piece, or an intricate design that adds a touch of sophistication, the possibilities are endless.

If you are considering a mural but are not sure how it should be cropped, not to worry. Jitterbug is a full-service company, and well provide you with cropping choices after you place your order. Once you approve your image we’ll print and ship it to your door.
