How to install P&S

How to hang your Jitterbug Peel & Stick mural

Peel. Stick. Smile.

1.
Prepare to install

Read and carefully follow the instructions for Preparing your walls. DO NOT skip this step. For great results, there are a few important steps you want to do BEFORE installation.

2.
Open and inspect your mural

Remove your Jitterbug mural from the shipping tube and let it lay flat for a few hours to unroll itself. When removing your mural from the packaging DO NOT use sharp objects to break open the box. Jitterbug will not replace your mural if you damage it after shipping.

3.
Gather your tools

  • 12 in. edge guider.
  • Ladder.
  • Utility knife.
  • Level or plumb bob.
  • Plastic wallpaper smoothing tool.
  • 2” wide painters tape. (DO NOT use regular masking tape, which may damage your mural.)

4.
Start applying your mural to the wall

Working from left to right, follow these steps.

  1. Hold the first panel up close to the corner near the ceiling or crown moulding.
  2. Secure the first panel with strips of 2″ wide painters tape against your crown moulding or ceiling. (Do not use masking tape.) Your painters tape is now going to be used as a “tape hinge” to hold the panel in place and free up your hands.
  3. Align the panel with the wall but DO NOT rely on the corner as your guide. Most walls are not as straight as they appear. If you do, as you add more panels your mural will veer in the wrong direction. Instead, on the RIGHT hand side of the panel, use your bubble level or plumb bob to make sure the panel is perfectly vertical.
  4. Reach under the paper and pull a few inches of the backing paper down to expose the adhesive layer.
  5. Using the plastic smoothing tool, start from the center and use horizontal strokes to smooth out the top portion. Apply slow, steady pressure to avoid wrinkles and air bubbles. If bubbles appear, lift the mural and reapply it.
  6. Once the top is secure, pull down about 12 inches of the backing paper at a time and use the squeegee to smooth it onto the wall, checking for bubbles as you go.
  7. Use your bubble level or plumb bob on the right hand side to ensure you are still applying the panel perfectly vertically. Peel the panel away and reposition as necessary.
  8. Continue removing 12 inches of backing paper at a time and repeating Steps 7 and 8 until you have completed the installation of your first panel.
  9. Begin the same process with your second panel as Step 1. Make sure you’ve grabbed the correct panel by confirming that the image matches up with your first panel. Make sure the tops of the panels match up and they lay butt to butt along the length of the wall. DO NOT OVERLAP YOUR PANELS.
  10. Continue working your way across the wall with the rest of your panels. Once the entire mural is installed and you are happy with the results, take your 12 inch edge guider and push the paper flat up against all the edges of the corners, crown moulding, baseboards and all other trim. Use your edge guide to direct your utility knife to trim the excess paper.
  11. Congrats! You peeled. You stuck. Now smile. You’ve transformed your space.
