Angel
Wallpaper Mural
Artist: Unknown, Italian
Date: 14th c.
Original medium: Fresco painting
Original size: 23 3/8 x 31 1/2 in.
Description
This depiction of an angel, once part of the fresco decoration of a chapel in the Torre della Gabbia in Mantua, was likely created around 1328 when Luigi Gonzaga became lord of the city. Removed from its original setting in 1870, it was one of a pair of angels that originally flanked a frescoed composition centered around a Madonna and Child. The matte surface, characteristic of fresco technique, allows the pigments to sink into the support, while the powerful, broadly conceived forms were designed to be easily visible from below.
Jitterbug is excited to offer “Angel” as a fine art wallpaper mural that will elevate any room.
