Wallpaper Mural
Artist: Claude Monet, French
Date: 19th c.
Original medium: Oil painting
Original size: 25 5/8 × 31 13/16 in.
Description
In early 1884, Claude Monet visited Bordighera, a charming town on the Italian Riviera, intending to stay for three weeks but ending up staying nearly three months. In his letters, Monet vividly described his struggle to capture the Mediterranean’s brilliant light, famously saying he was “fencing, wrestling, with the sun.” Despite the lush vegetation making it hard to find the perfect subject, Monet created this stunning painting from a hilltop perspective, where the sea peeks through the intertwined trunks of local pine trees. This beautiful painting is now available as a wallpaper mural for the very first time.
