Description
Jitterbug is pushing the envelope by offering this fabric fragment as a wallpaper mural, which is an unconventional use for such a historical piece.
During the Fatimid period in Egypt (909-1171), flax was a major crop used to make linen fibers, which played a crucial role in trade. Luxurious fabrics, like the one seen here, were given as gifts by the court to ambassadors, showcasing the wealth of the caliphate. Surviving textiles from this era often feature ornate designs, including rows of animals and other decorations. This particular fragment displays birds and half-palmettes connected by a vine pattern in silk. The repetition in the design is interrupted by the changing colors of the backgrounds, transitioning from blue to yellow and green.
