Description
This stunning wallpaper mural is from an original oil painting by Andrea Schiavone. It depicts Cupid, son of Venus, marrying the mortal Psyche in the presence of Juno, Jupiter, Mars, and other Olympian gods, as told by Apuleius in The Golden Ass. Created around 1550, it was originally an octagonal ceiling panel in the Castello di Salvatore di Collalto near Venice. Schiavone’s style, influenced by Parmigianino, featured fluid brushwork and exaggerated proportions, influencing later Venetian painters like Tintoretto.
