After many years of painting smaller seascapes, James McNeill Whistler took up a large canvas once again to capture a hot summer day on the waters near Brittany, France. According to Chicago collector Arthur Jerome Eddy, Whistler created this piece while on a boat, with someone keeping it steady for him. This method might explain the broad brushstrokes and thick layers of paint seen in the clouds and waves. Even in his later years, Whistler’s work showcased his enduring fascination with the sea’s ever-changing colors. Jitterbug is excited to offer this serene masterpiece as a fine art wallpaper mural.
