Triptychs don’t have to be cryptic

At Jitterbug, we love triptychs because they make a strong and classic visual statement, elevating wall spaces in intriguing ways. A triptych (pronounced “trip·tuhk”) is a wall design of three framed wall panels displayed in a row across the width of your wall. Triptychs date all the way back to about the 4th century with the word “Triptychos” meaning “having three folds.” You’ll find several images of triptych examples displayed throughout our store. They are a beautiful way to add an extra measure of creativity and character to any room

Today, classic triptych designs are making a major comeback and framing your mural with moulding helps to give it a beautiful completed look. You can now find DIY moulding wall panel kits available on multiple sites, like Etsy for example. These kits can be custom cut to your needs, and they even have peel & stick backing for easy installation. These DIY panel kits are a godsend if you aren’t into carpentry or simply don’t have the equipment to do it yourself. The finished panels can be filled with murals and wall lighting to give it that extra wow factor.

Our amazing fine art murals can easily be cut at home into three wall panels as seen in our Flemish Lace mural at the top of this page. So, how is it done? Read on for the details!

Jitterbug is a full service company and will custom design your triptych especially for you. We understand that not everyone has a designer’s eye. So we’re here to help, no design education required. Here’s all you have to do:

Measure the dimensions of your panels (see the “multiple panels” section of How to measure your walls).
Choose your mural.
Place your order. When placing your order, let us know in the notes section that you are planning on a triptych. Provide us with the dimensions of each panel and the space between them. We’ll custom create your mural design options and send them to you for approval.
Your mural will arrive either as one complete mural or in a few pieces. This all depends on the total dimensions of your mural. Larger murals over 52 in. x 70 in. will be divided into sections for printing. You will trim your mural to fit your wall panels when you install them.

Option 1:

We can spread the image out evenly across three panels, maintaining the original essence of Winston Homer’s watercolor.

Option 2:

We can also zoom in, placing more focus on the deer and the trees. If you don’t especially like the deer, we can go for an option 3 and focus on the sky and treetops. The decision is up to you.
